The first winter
series of Love Island will start on Sunday January 12, although there is still no confirmation on who will be host.

ITV confirmed the news in a tweet, which said: “Inflatables at the ready… we’re back on January 12th!”

It had been previously reported that the show would return to ITV2 for its debut winter series, filmed in South Africa, on Wednesday 8 January.

It comes after Caroline Flack stepped down from hosting the show following her arrest.

The 40-year-old TV presenter was charged “following a private domestic incident”, reportedly involving boyfriend Lewis Burton.

According to reports, Laura Whitmore, 34, will take over hosting duties, although Maya Jama and Emily Atack have also been rumoured.

Irish TV star Whitmore, who is the girlfriend of Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, has replaced Flack in a job before, when she took over I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! NOW! in 2011.

She has also presented on MTV News for seven years and took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2016.

In 2018, Whitmore hosted ITV’s first attempt at a winter version of Love Island, Survival Of The Fittest, which included eventual Love Island winner Dani Dyer among its contestants.

The contestants for the series have not yet been announced.

John Simm is to star in ITV’s adaptation of Peter James’s crime novels.

The 49-year-old actor – whose television credits include Doctor Who and Strangers – will play Brighton-based Detective Superintendent Roy Grace in a forthcoming series.

ITV has commissioned Endeavour creator Russell Lewis to adapt the first two books in the series – Dead Simple and Looking Good Dead.

The drama follows Grace, a hard-working police officer who has given his life to the job.

However, his career has hit rock bottom and he is fixated by the disappearance of his wife, Sandy.

When a stag night prank appears to go wrong and the groom goes missing, Grace’s colleague, Detective Sergeant Glenn Branson, calls upon him to unravel the events that led to the mysterious disappearance, three days before the man’s wedding.

James said Simm is the perfect actor to play his tenacious detective.

He said: “John Simm, who actually looks like the Roy Grace of my imagination, is inspired casting.

“With John in the lead, the brilliant scripting by Russell Lewis, and our wonderful production team, I’m confident that fans of my novels and of TV crime dramas in general will be in for a treat.”

Lewis said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to be involved in bringing Peter James’ brilliantly gripping series of Roy Grace novels to ITV.

Russell Lewis said: “Each story is a fantastic, hair-raising, twisting, switch-back of a rollercoaster ride that grips the reader from first to last, and the opportunity to translate that best-selling magic to television is like all one’s Christmases and birthdays come at once.

“As his millions of fans and admirers are well aware, Peter’s meticulous research and eye for detail is the stuff of legend.

“His long established, close relationship with the police, taken together with a knowledge of Brighton and the South Coast that is the sole preserve of the born and bred lends his stories an unimpeachable veracity of place and procedure.

“That John Simm will be breathing flesh to the bones of Roy Grace really is the cherry on a dark and troublingly encrimsoned cake.”

Kate Garraway was worried she was about to lose her job on Good Morning Britain after she overslept and missed the show.

Ranvir Singh was forced to step in and host the programme with Ben Shephard.

It was supposed to be Garraway's first GMB show since appearing on I'm A Celebrity.

However, she accidentally slept through her alarm and woke up in her clothes from the night before.

Speaking on the show via Facetime she said: "I've still got my shoes on.

"I fell asleep and the next thing I know it's 20 minutes ago, I've never done this. When we were in the jungle, I was so smug saying I've never missed a show because I get up so early that even if I oversleep it's still like 2015.

"I'm going to get fired! This is meant to be my first show back."

Ben Shephard joked that after her time in the spotlight, she had become too big for her boots.

He said: "One sniff of prime-time and this is what happens."
