BBC Two has announced the return of Great Coastal Railway Journeys with host Michael Portillo, as he invites viewers to join him on a new railway adventure.

This series will follow Michael as he embarks on a journey around the shores of the British Isles and beyond, exploring the diverse landscapes, rich history and unique cultures found along the coastline. Reaching from the petrified forest in Borth, Wales to the picturesque Tresco Abbey in the Isles of Scilly and across to the sea defences of the east coast, Michael discovers the hidden treasures of Britain’s coastal towns and cities. He investigates their connection to the sea, along with the forces of nature and history that have shaped them.

Weaving through charming seaside towns, historic landmarks and natural wonders, Great Coastal Railway Journeys takes viewers on a fascinating adventure. From discovering the prehistoric secrets of Lyme Regis, uncovering the historic coastlines of Kent and delving into the treacherous waters off the Norfolk coast, each episode promises to immerse viewers in the beauty of Britain’s coastal regions, all accessible by train.
