Sky Atlantic is to finally launch on Virgin Media on 1 April, it has been announced.

The channel – Sky’s home for high-quality programming, predominantly US dramas – launched in the UK and Ireland more than 15 years ago in February 2011.

However, Sky opted to keep the station exclusive to its own platforms, meaning that Virgin households have missed out on content including Game of Thrones until now.

Sky’s change of heart comes amid the imminent launch of HBO Max, which will supplant Sky Atlantic as the first-run home of major HBO shows.

David Bouchier, Virgin’s chief TV officer, said: “Our promise to our customers is simple – to offer seamless entertainment at incredible value – and the addition of Sky Atlantic on Virgin TV is testament to that.

“The channel is home to gripping drama and incredible stories from the UK and the US and has given us some of the biggest watercooler moments of our times. Now, over a million Virgin TV customers can enjoy Sky Atlantic with no added cost or action required.”

Sky Atlantic will become available on channel 111 for Virgin customers with access to Sky Entertainment channels at no extra cost from 1 April.
